  • Share:
Name: 4-H Activity Days Offer Hands-on Learning
Date: July 19, 2017
Time: 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM EDT
Event Description:
Learn about Native American history, the magic of a microwave, and the bells and whistles of an ambulance during Activity Day I. Youth will learn about the skills and cultural expectations of Cumberland County’s earliest settlers using clothing, animal pelts, weapons and tools. The day will also include the opportunity to discover the hidden tricks to making quick and easy meals, snacks, and desserts in a microwave. Then the day will wrap up with an up-close look at a real ambulance, as youth get the chance to step inside of one. In addition to the touring the ambulance, the campers will get to meet local Emergency Medical Services personnel and learn First Aid and CPR skills.
Then only one week later, the Cumberland County 4-H program will be hosting Activity Day II. The second Activity Day of the summer will feature the program’s own Cumberland County 4-H Alpaca Club members and leader, who will be on hand to teach the campers about alpacas – featuring real alpacas, their care, and uses for their fiber. Youth will also have a chance to travel internationally as we explore the games, holidays and food of Japan. And finally youth will discover the techniques of fingerprinting and other methods to solving mysteries.
Participants must be between the ages of 8-12 years old, as of July 12, 2017. Youth do not have to be a member of the 4-H program. Registration is limited to 45 youth at each camp and is required by the following dates: July 5 for Activity Day I and July 12 for Activity Day II. No walk-in registrations will be accepted. The registration fee is $8 each day and includes all program materials and take-home items. To register, or to find out more information, contact the 4-H Department at 717.240.6500 or visit http://extension.psu.edu/cumberland.
This camp is a program of Penn State Extension in Cumberland County and Cumberland County 4-H.
Administered in Pennsylvania by Penn State Extension, 4-H is a community of more than 6 million young people across America learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. Cumberland County – in addition to the other 66 counties throughout the state – has an Extension Youth Development Educator administering the local 4-H program through non-formal education and outreach.
