More than 130 Students Receive Spring Scholarships

SUMMERDALE, PA – During the current spring term, 135 Central Penn College students were awarded $116,000 in scholarships by the college’s Education Foundation

“For the past 17 years, the Education Foundation has been making a difference in the lives of our students by helping make college more affordable,” said Sandy Box, director of the nonprofit organization. “Over the last 12 months, our mission has never been more critical, as our students continued to pursue their dreams in the midst of a global pandemic.”

Students were very appreciative of their scholarship awards, as evidenced by this sampling of comments received by the Education Foundation:

“I have been presented with struggles this past year that I had to overcome, and without your generous donation, it may not have been possible for me to finish my degree.” – Kayleigh B.

“I always hear people talk about hard work paying off, and once in a while it comes to fruition. Thank you for believing in me and my story.” – Joe B.

“Your kind gift has given me renewed confidence and motivation to keep working hard towards my goals. Someday I know I will be able to pay this forward to help students like myself.” – James H.

During the previous academic year (2019–2020), the Foundation awarded $243,000 to 288 Central Penn students. Students can apply for scholarships in August and February; awards are then given in the fall and spring terms, respectively.

Since 2004, the nonprofit Education Foundation has distributed more than $2 million in scholarships to more than 2,300 students. More than 80% of Central Penn employees contribute annually to the foundation.

“We are grateful for our many individual and corporate donors who are making a profound difference in the lives of our students,” said Box.
