SHIPPENSBURG, PA: Orrstown Bank, one of Central Pennsylvania’s longest-tenured community banks, is entering 2019 with enthusiasm and excitement as the company commemorates the 100th anniversary of its founding throughout the coming year.

On May 24, 1919, Orrstown Bank first opened its doors for business in the small town of Orrstown in Franklin County to meet the financial needs of the citizens of the small, rural community. Today, a century later, the bank continues to serve communities both small and large through a network of financial centers and business banking and mortgage lending offices throughout Franklin, Cumberland, Perry, Dauphin, York, Lancaster, and Berks counties in Pennsylvania and Washington County, Maryland.

“Since day one nearly a century ago, Orrstown Bank has taken great pride in providing not only banking services, but financial and volunteer support to the communities we serve,” said Thomas R. Quinn, Jr., President and CEO. “Our founders would be extremely proud of the company we are today, and that we have remained true to their original vision. As we mark our 100th anniversary, we remain committed to their mission while looking forward to our future.”

Orrstown Bank “plunged” into its anniversary celebration activities recently by doing something it is passionate about – giving back to organizations that help others. On New Year’s Day, a team from Orrstown Bank plunged into the icy waters of the Susquehanna River to support the Humane Society of Harrisburg’s Penguin Plunge. This event raises much-needed funding to support the animals at the Humane Society’s shelter.

This, however, was only the beginning, as Orrstown Bank will continue to support the community by announcing $100,000 in contributions through Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit program in the coming weeks. Throughout the year, Orrstown Bank will commemorate its anniversary in many ways, including the following sampling:
  • 100 Hours of Caring: Each Orrstown Bank employee will be encouraged to provide at least 100 hours of service to the community in 2019, whether through service on non-profit boards or committees, school organizations, coaching youth activities, or other volunteer engagements.
  • $100 Acts of Kindness: Orrstown Bank employees will randomly surprise individuals throughout the region with $100 to assist them during difficult times or to thank them for their service to others.
  • Teacher of the Month: Recognizing the important role that educators play in our society, the community will have the opportunity to nominate teachers they believe are deserving of Teacher of the Month honors. Winning teachers will receive $100 for classroom activities and 100 books for their school library.
  • Community Events: Orrstown will host and sponsor a significant number of community events and customer appreciation days throughout the year.
  • Promotions and Products: Orrstown will highlight its 100th year through various products and promotions that will continue throughout 2019.

“We have achieved great success because of the hard work and support of so many board members, customers, communities, employees, friends, neighbors, and investors,” said Mr. Quinn. “As we build upon our historic past to prepare us for our vibrant future, we look forward to celebrating with everyone the many exciting initiatives we have planned for 2019.”
