Acuff & Evans’ text Multiculturalism in Art Museums Today was first published in 2014, exactly 10 years ago. Since its inception, the world has experienced many global phenomena that have impacted all our institutions, from healthcare to education. From a global pandemic (COVID19), climate change threats, a racial reckoning with the public murder of George Floyd, an economic recession, and so much more, museums have been required to respond to major events that have inevitably influenced how they engage visitors and learners. This talk reflects on the ways such events have shifted what multiculturalism in the museum means today and what it will mean for the future.
The Trout Gallery of Dickinson College will be open until 6 PM on the day of the lecture.
