December President's Letter

All roads lead to the Carlisle Cumberland Valley….a phrase that I have used many times in my career. Since we all know this to be true, we have to work together to ensure that as growth occurs in our region, our road network is meeting the increased demand.

A few months ago, I wrote my monthly letter telling you about the soon to be released I-81 widening report that was originally published in 2005. I am happy to report that the report is complete and we are kicking off the new year with an open discussion on the findings and how we will work together to ensure that this work will get done in the years to come.

Yes, we all know the expense of infrastructure enhancements – and to help our communities to thrive and create opportunities for all our generations, we need to take this opportunity to elevate the discussion and turn that into action.

Mike Keiser, PennDOT District 8 Engineer, will review the study results with us, while Kirk Stoner, the Director of Planning for Cumberland County, will facilitate the discussion. Since infrastructure development is crucial to the future, all Chamber members are encouraged to attend. This includes all Chamber members – businesses of all sizes, federal, state, county and local officials.

We host a number of programs where topics are discussed, but then we leave without a plan of action. Our goal at the end of the program to create a ‘call to action’ – begin a few groups that will work together to help our community’s message come alive – we need to improve I-81 not only for business growth and development, but to ensure the safety and quality of life for the residents of our area for years to come.

You need to be a part of this discussion – so please join us on Tuesday, January 8th, from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM. We need you to have a seat at the table.
