CCHS Local History Series: Carlisle's Lincoln Cemetery

Join us for the first part of our Local History Series of 2025 in partnership with the Cumberland County Historical Society on Thursday, January 2 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm!
 

Memorial Park, created in 1974 as a recreation area for the surrounding community, stands on the site of Lincoln Cemetery. Originally named the African Cemetery of Carlisle, Lincoln Cemetery was in use as early as 1806. Cumberland County Historical Society's Archives & Library Director, Cara Curtis, will explore the complex history of Carlisle's oldest historic Black cemetery at the corner of Pitt and Penn Streets.
