Award-Winning Journalist to Headline Tribute to National Leaders

Award-winning Journalist to Emcee Army Dinner Saluting U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick and Tunnel to Towers
 
(Carlisle) September 3, 2026 -- Salena Zito, an award-winning journalist who recently authored a best-selling book on the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump in Butler County, will serve as the emcee of the Oct. 24 “Evening of Honor” dinner, hosted by the Carlisle, Pa.-based nonprofit Army Heritage Center Foundation.
 
The annual dinner, to be held at the Penn Harris Hotel and Convention Center in Camp Hill, begins with a reception and silent auction at 6 pm and dinner at 7 pm, followed by a program honoring U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick as the 2026 “Living Legacy” award winner, and Tunnel to Towers as the “Boots on the Ground” award winner.  
 
Zito is a national political reporter for the Washington Examiner and a special contributor to The Washington Post and CNN.
 
“One of the traits that has made Salena Zita’s career so impressive is her commitment to telling the stories of people across America—before they are lost,” said Julie Germany, President of the Army Heritage Center Foundation.   “At the Foundation, we share the same vision of preserving soldier stories. We are honored that Ms. Zita has agreed to serve as our master of ceremonies.“
 
McCormick is only one of two West Point graduates now serving in the U.S. Senate, and one of the 18 percent of members of Congress who are veterans. 
 
Zito won the Associated Press first-place prize for column writing in 2018, as well as the Barbara Olson Award for excellence and independence in journalism.
