Local Military Leader with 40 Years in Uniform to Share His Secrets to
Successful Leadership Aug. 7 in Carlisle, PA
(CARLISLE, PA) – Muddy boots. Tactical patience. Reading people over reports. Faith and forgiveness. Goal-articulation.
These are some of the key elements of success spelled out in IRON-SHARPENED LEADERSHIP, a book by Maj. Gen. John L. Gronski (U.S. Army, Ret.) who serves on the Carlisle, Pa.-based Army Heritage Center Foundation’s board of directors. Gronski led 5,000 soldiers in Ramadi, Iraq in 2005-2006 and 15,000 soldiers as commanding general of the 28th Infantry Division.
He will summarize a lifetime of lessons in leadership at 2 pm on Friday, Aug. 7 at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center, 950 Soldiers Drive in Carlisle, PA. The book talk is free and open to the public.
Brig. Gen. Maureen Weigl, Pennsylvania’s Deputy Adjutant General for Veterans’ Affairs, will also be on hand. Brig. Gen. Weigl supervises the administration of state veterans’ programs for 700,000 veterans and their dependents.
Gen. Gronski is a veteran of the Iraq War, serving from 1978 to 2019. His decorations include two Army Distinguished Service Medals, two awards of the Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star Medal.
A native of Scranton and now a resident of Lebanon, PA, Gen. Gronski attended the University of Scranton and completed a Master of Business Administration degree at Penn State. After completing his command of the 28th Infantry Division in 2016, Gronski served as the National Guard Deputy Commanding General of U. S. Army Europe until his retirement in 2019.
